    Ms. s

      Welcome Back!!!

I hope your summer was full of fun and relaxation!!!  I can't wait to hear all about it!!!

It's a good time to grab a book and read.  Here are some fun things you can do with your book:
    1.  Discuss it with someone at home
    2. Write a review
    3.  Draw a picture of your favorite part/character
    4. Make a poster of the book (like what you see for movies)

Here is what we will  be working  on this fall:

2nd and 3rd grade:  reading comprehension, inferences.  Have your child read to you from their books and ask them to be the "detective."  They need to "collect" all the "clues" the author gave them to get what the author is trying to say without coming right out and telling them.  :)

I will continue doing LLI (Leveled Literacy Intervention) with your child to reinforce his/her reading
     and writing skills.
LLI is a literacy intervention. Through systematically designed lessons, both reading and writing
     can be supported.
These lessons help to expand their knowledge of words and how they work. It also focuses on their reading
    comprehension.

We will read several books over a span of time write about their reading and receive instruction in phonics.

The writing segment helps to develop strategies that can be applied in the classroom contexts.

It also helps them to learn how to write about their reading, by extending their thinking.

As we read the books, I will send them home for your child to read to you.

They have read the books a few times by the time I send them home, so they should be able
    to read them fluently and
answer any comprehension questions that accompany them. After reading them, please return
    the books to school.
Thanks so much for your help at home in reinforcing their reading skills.

We will also be working on various skills that each of my students need for that “little extra.”

Main idea and details are a big focus of reading lessons.  When reading with your child ask them what the main idea (the topic) was of what they just read and have them give you 2 details that support it.  This is great practice and reinforcement of these skills.

Classroom work will also be reviewed for understanding and practice.

My page includes links to various internet sites that are good reinforcers and practice. If you have others that you have

found, please feel free to email them to me so I can include them.

I look forward to working with you in the 2016-2017 school year to ensure and promote
     your child’s success and learning!
