March is another busy month in first grade. We are celebrating Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss’ birthday. We have a guest reader coming to read a Dr. Seuss book to our class.
We have started our new writing unit, Opinion Writing. Our writers will be learning how to write their opinions and give reasons to support that opinion. They will also use persuasive writing to convince their readers to change their opinions.
We are wrapping up our science unit on balance and motion. The students really enjoyed it and learned a lot.
The first grade classes are taking a field trip to Stop & Shop. Each class is going on a different day. Our class will be going on March 9th from 10:20-11:45. We will have snack before we go and we will be back in time for lunch.
There is no school on March 10th. Teachers have a Regional Professional Development day, students have the day off.
Math Night is March 15th. We hope you can join us for lots of fun playing games, learning, and exploring with math.
Report cards will be sent home on March 24th. Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held March 29th and 30th . Students will have early dismissal days March 29th, 30th, and 31st. Signup sheets will be coming home for you to select a date and time that works for you.
As always, please continue to read with your child nightly. Also, work on math doubles to build fluency.
