Here are some helpful hints to help prevent stress in your child:*Be aware of your childs behaviors and emotions. Help your child find things that give personal pleasure and encouragement.*Set realistic expectations.
*Encourage the expression of feelings. Model awareness by using I statements when communication with your child.
*Teach problem solving techniques to your child.
*Encourage physical activity.
Here are some stress relieving tips to practice with your child:
*Have your child count to ten slowly.
*Practice deep breathing techniques (I tell my students to breathe in and try to suck their stomachs in, and then breathe out pushing their stomachs out.)*Imagine a relaxing place he/she enjoys going to (i.e. the beach, fishing, camping, etc.).
