Anne is licensed by the State of CT and certified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses'' Credentialing Center. She has been practicing as a PNP for 20 years, 10 years of that in SBHC''s in RI, PA and CT. She loves being here at CMS.
A nurse practitioner is licensed to provide primary care, acute illness and chronic illness management.. At the SBHC Anne performs school and sports physicals, gives immunizations, evaluates and treats children who are ill at school, and sees children with chronic conditions such as asthma on a regular basis do teaching with them and make sure their condition is well controlled. She sends reports to a student's primary care provider or may contact them by phone.
There are several ways that a student can be seen for a visit. Most students are referred by the school nurse for further evaluation and treatment. A parent may call during the day requesting that their child be evaluated or may bring their sick child in for a visit. Finally, Anne may call a student out of class to follow up on an acute problem or review their asthma, weight management or other chronic health concern.
